Neighbors see neighbors, tourists come for a taste of something new and 4-H youth bring projects and presentations for everyone to see. A visit to the county fair makes memories for all, so make a date to enjoy at least one this summer.
The county system is one of the main ways that University of Minnesota Extension reaches all 87 counties.
“University of Minnesota Extension delivers on our promise to counties — and through the county system — all year, and so it’s a real pleasure to show the results of some of that at our county fair,” says Ann Olson, 4-H educator in Benton County.
In addition to 4-H’ers, Master Gardeners and other Extension volunteers often share their expertise at county fairs.

Extension’s economic analysis team has studied county fairs in Minnesota. Here’s what county fairs do:
- Drive economic activity.
- Reach tourists.
- Bring in money.
